Day 13

I got to the class on time, got seated and started googling the terms we were supposed to read and come. A few minutes later the CR went on to the stage and started discussing the terms. Most of us were prepared for the class, hence, we knew what the terms meant. We discussed about Mise-en-scene which is a French term meaning "placing on stage" or in respect to a movie it could mean the arrangement of everything and anything that appears in a frame ranging from lighting, costume, props, etc . We further discussed it's elements  such as lighting, colour pallet, colour design, prop design, costume design, hairstyle and make up, etc. We then watched a video portraying the Kuleshov effect which is an effect from which people can derive different meaning when two shots are shown simultaneously, a couple of times and each time one of the shots is kept the same while the other is changed to derive a different meaning altogether.

After this we saw a shot film by our faculty which goes by the name Chal Chaliye.
The five act analysis of the movie is as follows:

ACT 1. Exposition
1. A young girl and boy are out for a walk in the woods on a hill. They come to a stop where the girl questions how did they come so far to which the boy replies step by step.

ACT 2. Rising Action
2. The girl goes in flashback to when the boy came at her door and asked her to step out of the house with him.
3. The girl says she needs to head back home.
4. The girl goes back in flashback to when the guy and she were walking.
5. The girl and the guy have a conversation about his love confession to her a fortnight before her marriage which the girl declares  as madness.
6. The girl asks the guy to shake hands like friends and part.
7. The guy kisses the girl
8. The girl gets out of the flashback.
9. The guy asks good bye, then, to which the girl giggles and says that every time, they're about to say bye, he kisses her.
10. The guy asks her to sit with him for 2 minutes to which she agrees but she sits at some distance from him to avoid any further awkward intimate situations
11. She goes back in flashback to when she invited him inside her house and to when he confessed to being in love with her.
12. Then she goes back to the flash back when he asks her if she loves her fiancé and while she's talking about her fiancé, he pulls her close and kisses her again.
12. Then she goes back to the flashback when she says how far have they come?
13. The girl gets out of the flashback. The boy asks her if it's too late now to which she replies it is. Yet, he asks her to say yes but she says no.

ACT 3. Climax

14. The boy starts walking away from the girl while she keeps staring in the direction he's walking. The boy disappears but come back in the frame and looks towards her.
15. The girl runs towards him and hugs him.

ACT 4. Falling Action

16. Both hug each other back after looking at each other for reassurance.

ACT 5. Denouement

17. Both walk away together without a shred of doubt in the girl's mind.

After the movie all of us went down to the Nescafé only to find our faculty waiting there for us with a whole set up for making a music video. He asked us about what we did in class while he wasn't there. After which he made us take three shots which he asked us to edit in order to create the Kuleshov effect. He then dictated us the lyrics to his self composed song which we sang a couple times afterwards.

What I learnt today are a few new terms mentioned towards the starting, of course, but along with that I learnt today that we don't always need a teacher to complete the syllabus. If the tasks are known, they can be often completed without the presence of a teacher in the class.

What was different about today was that we tried making music, and even though we sucked at it and were way out of tune, it was fun doing something new of this kind.
