Day 12
Friday
1/02/19
I reached the auditorium in time for class and got seated. Shortly, our faculty joined us. He asked one of the students to come up on the stage and discuss the terms related to sound that he had asked us to study before hand. After the discussion got over the student on the stage had some videos she wanted to show us, however, due to technical issues we were unable to hear anything other than the video's background music, hence, we had to discontinue with the video.
The faculty then asked who all had completed all the tasks given so far and who all haven't. I hadn't made the video comprising of different kind of shots which we were supposed to do before this session, hence, for the first time I was amongst those who weren't up to date with their work. He then asked us to provide reasons for why we failed to complete the tasks. After that he asked those who had done all the work to stand up and decided what was to be done with those who hadn't completed the tasks. Someone suggested that everyone moves out of the class, helps each other with the work and then cones back to the class while many protested. However, later all decided to help. The faculty then made them sit and asked all the others who had incomplete work to stand instead. After some more discussion that followed, all of us moved out of the auditorium. Those who had completed their work helped others out. They explained us what was to be done and how one could go about doing it. Most us had only the video making task remaining, hence, we tried to complete it as soon as possible and got back to the auditorium. After everyone was in the auditorium, our faculty showed us a few videos that he had received before the deadline and discussed those. The term negative space and positive came up while the discussion where positive space refers to the subject in a frame while the space surrounding the subject is referred to as negative space. There should be a balance between both and the negative space shouldn't take up more space of the frame compared to the positive space. We also discussed the rule of thirds according to which when we draw two horizontal as well as two vertical lines in a frame in such a way that the frame gets divided into nine equal parts then the points of intersection of those two horizontal lines and vertical lines are the points where any important object should be placed in the frame. For example, a car on a hilly road can be at one of those points in a frame, so can be the moon in a night sky.
The class time got over while we were still in the process of watching the videos. A few students expressed their will to leave, indirectly. Our faculty asked us to leave our names with him for attendance if we wished to leave. A few left while the faculty carried on the discussion with the rest of us. After showing a few videos, he discussed one of the blogs written by Rituraj Verma titled
Communicating Ideas Visually . There she talks about apples for apples and apples for pears, and by these phrases what she means is the denotative meaning of an image and the connotative meaning, respectively. In order to explain these phrases, she had put up a video on her blog. Soon after we saw the video, attendance was taken and the class was dismissed.
What I learnt in this session was how even one person not being up to date with the given tasks can get all the others to suffer.
What was different about this session was that for the first time I was one of the reasons because of which others had to suffer.
