Day 9
Monday

I went to the auditorium on the 7th floor where many of my classmates were already seated. I took to my seat, laying down my handbag to the seat on my left, digging out my cellphone from it. After a few minutes, Vinesh sir came to the auditorium and got seated in the front row to the extreme left. After a few more minutes, the class representative came to the auditorium. He read out a message that the faculty had sent him which said that all those who have completed their blogs for day 7 and day 8 can stay in the auditorium while all the others need to go to room no. 535 and complete their work. The message also read that attendance would be given in both the places. The class representative then headed towards Vinesh sir and started discussing about calling the IT staff and getting the screen ready for the class while some students got up from their seats and left the auditorium. Later the IT staff came and started setting up the screen. Two people brought in the board after a while.
After a few more minutes the faculty came to the auditorium. The faculty got up on the stage. Did some hand gestures after which all of us stood up from our seats. He did some hand gesture again and all of us lowered back into our seats. He asked us whether all those sitting in the auditorium had completed blogs of day 7 and day 8? I nodded a yes with my head. He then refering to our blogs from day 8 asked us who wrote in their blogs that the teacher never came back. I raised my hand. After which he questioned when did the movie end. The students replied at 6 p.m. He then asked us what were we doing in the fifteen minutes that were remaining before the class time got over. Did we stay there in the auditorium till 6:15? From this I understood that it was not that the teacher did not come back but that we went early and didn't stayed there to find out whether the teacher ever came back before the class time got over and I said so in the class. He then asked us about the basic qualification required for being a student. He then asked us whether any of us remember the sacred pact that Miyagi and Daniel San made. We knew the implied meaning but not the exact words spoken by Miyagi which were : "First make sacred pact. I promise teach karate. That my part. You promise learn. I say, you do, no questions. That your part."

From there the faculty then moved on to talking about tbe syllabus. He said that he has the syllabus for those who were interested in knowing the syllabus before. He tried opening the syllabus document. The document was not compatible on the device it was being opened. The device was replaced with a Mac book. The document was opened by the faculty on the Mac book. The faculty then scrolled down the document reading out the names of different types of camera shots aloud. He asked us to note down the information given in the document.
He then said that we'll be watching a movie. We'll have to do three things after that.
1. Try and identify the different types of shots used for different scenes
2. Analysis of the movie with relation to our lives
3. Write about the qualifications of a viewer.
After this we started noting down the shot names.
Meanwhile he took our attendance. After that we had a little discussion. He then said he's going to room no. 535 to take attendance of the students there. He said that after 10 minutes he'll be at the coffee shop, those who think that going by the syllabus is more important can stay in the auditorium while those who think that they might learn something from him can meet him at the coffee shop in 10 minutes.
After he left the class unanimously decided that after jotting down the camera shots information in 10 minutes, we'll go to the Nescafé. Then after making the notes all of us headed towards the Nescafé. We went to the lift but stopped the lift at the 5th floor to check whether we'll find sir at Nescafé sir or was he still in 535. We discovered he was still in 535. Half of the class was already on the ground floor by then. We too went there and told them that sir was in 535 still. All of us then decided to get back to the auditorium and start watching the movie while sir was still in 535, and we could send someone to Nescafé to check if he's there ir not and then we could go yo him if he would have been there. We then came back to the auditorium and started watching the movie. Few minutes in the movie and we forgot we were supposed to go check if sir was at Nescafé or not. At 6:15 sir came yo the auditorium. He paused the movie and asked whether we'd like to continue watching or not as it was already past the class time. None of us said yes. He then dismissed us for the day. But before that he made the class representative read out a message which said that all those who haven't sent their blog links to the class representative yet can do so now but they'll have to give a valid reason for the delay and the class representative will decide whether the reason is valid or not. We all left shortly after that.

Terms from camera with examples from the movie Rashomon by Akira Kurosawa that I could identify are as follows :
Establishing Shot : The scene where the characters have been introduced who have taken shelter under an old damaged building because it's pouring heavily outside. The characters were the commoner, the Buddhist priest and the woodcutter.
Wide Shot : The shot which sets the story, capturing the whole big damaged building. It shows the whole area and the rain storm.
Medium Shot : The camera goes closer to show both the Buddhist priest and and the wood cuter in one frame.
Two Shot : The frame in which the Buddhist priest and the wood cutter are shown sitting together.
Close - up : The camera moves closer to bring attention to the Buddhist priest's face to show his expressions.
Panning Shot : The shot where the wood cutter discovers the scene of murder.
Low Angle Shot : The shot where the wood cutter walks across a log

The other two questions to be addressed are :
1. What are the qualifications of a viewer?
Qualifications of a viewer is being attentive while watching a film.
2. Movie Analysis with relation to our lives
To be attended tomorrow

The real hindrance to the class not getting on are we as we don't complete the tasks given to us on time and also the IT staff hasn't prepared the system and the screen on time nor was the board there on time.
When we already have a task laid out ahead of us or when we have backlogs, instead of working on those when the teacher is not present in the class, we end up doing nothing and waste time. Hence, the teacher's presence though shouldn't make any difference when we already know the tasks we're supposed to do but in our case we didn't get to doing it in his absence.
Before today whenever we were asked about the basic qualifications of being a student, I didn't really get to the answer. But after today's discussion about the sacred pact in the movie 'The Karate Kid', I now know that the basic qualification to being a student is doing the tasks assigned to us on time without questioning their purpose.
Today's class was different as for the first time we collectively took the decision of going to Nescafé even though we couldn't really do as we thought we would but we tried.
