Day 11

Thursday
31/01/19

At 3:00, I was in the college bus on my way to college from the National Garment Fair at Goregaon. At 4:10, I reached the campus and hurried to the auditorium on the 7th floor. I got seated while the class was in the middle of a discussion. I stared the speakers blankly. After the previous discussion got over, the faculty narrated a story about his conversations he had with his wife at home in relation to both of them having to share the same work environment since a few days as he's been working as a guest faculty at the same college where she's a faculty as well as handles administrative work. He told us how she keeps mocking him by saying 'Welcome to my world'. He said to her that what kind of system has she and the others at the college made, what have they made of the students as a reply to which his wife says : yes, we all are ________
He asked us to fill in the blank. Different answers came up which cracked us all up. Though, everyone could guess that the blank would contain a cuss word but most of us were uncomfortable using cuss words hence gave bizzare answers, however, one of the students did say a cuss word which was the one spoken by his wife. He told us that she had never said it before and after that one time, he's never heard that word come out of her mouth again. Parallely, he narrated an incident from when he was in college. He was at a station with a friend from Delhi. Both of them were in search of a ride but after being rejected by all the drivers, his friend started cussing loudly which drew the attention of the drivers who surrounded them and were ready to attack but when the drivers came close, his friend added 'hai hum'. It confused the drivers and both of them got out of there safely.

Comparing both the situations we notice how his wife (a woman) has always been hesistant to use cuss words while his friend ( a man) was comfortable with the idea of using those. Similarly, when sir asked us to fill in the blanks, despite knowing what probably should have gone there, most girls decided against saying it and rather said stupid things that had no context to the situation.
He then compared guys cussing to girl's crying as both are acts of frustration. And thus when oneos cussing its equivalent to crying. The discussion ended shortly after that.

Those who had any part of the blogs incomplete were then asked to find some corner in the college other than the auditorium where they were supposed to complete their work after which they could come back and get seated without disturbing the others. Those who were supposed to leave left. After that our faculty discussed one of the blogs and what were the common mistakes that all of us have been making. After which he discussed another blog which was better than the others and he read out some part of it as an example for the others. We were given a break after that but by the time we reached down it was already 5:25. I was at the Nescafe till 5:30, soon after which I left.

What I learnt today was how difficult it is to be able to understand what's going on when you join in the middle of an ongoing conversation. Also, I learnt that we don't always need lots of words because the same thing can be conveyed beautifully by a single word often times.

This class was different as I was late to the class and because of that I couldn't make out much of what was ongoing for a few minutes after I reached class.
